JAKARTA - The name Ralf Rangnick appeared on the list of candidates to replace Hansi Flick in the German national team. However, the coach firmly refused.
Rangnick is currently focusing on coaching the Austrian national team in undergoing the Euro 2024 qualifiers. He doesn't seem to want to be bothered by rumors about the possibility of coaching Germany.
The German Football Federation (DFB) recently sacked Hansi Flick in the aftermath of a series of poor results by The Panzer. Most recently, the German national team lost badly to Japan in a friendly match.
With the vacant coach seats, new candidates were immediately hunted. Several names began to surface, including the name of the former Manchester United manager.
"I had no other chance and thought of anything else," Rangnick was clearly quoted as saying by Metro, Thursday, September 14.
He made the decision 14 months ago when Rangnick accepted an offer to coach the Austrian national team. The 65-year-old expressed his refusal because he wanted to focus on a mission to get Austria to qualify for the 2024 European Cup.
Rangnick stated that he would not comment further on rumors or speculation about the new German national team coach in addition to discussing the Austrian national team.
"I'm preparing the team to qualify for the Euros and play well there. Everything else isn't a topic for me," he added.
The German national team still has several other potential candidates, including former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
