The Indonesian League 2 Format Will Play 260 Matches, Here's The Format

JAKARTA The Indonesian League 2 season 2023/2024 total will play 260 matches. This is the third format proposed by PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB).

Director of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) Ferry Paulus said this latest format had been approved by PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir.

"So the total match was 260 matches for League 2 competition. Earlier PSSI ordered PT LIB to carry out what was held some time ago," said Ferry at Field A, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 16 yesterday.

One of the two previous formats that had been proposed by LIB was what was agreed upon in the National Football Sarasehan in Jakarta which was attended by League 2 clubs.

The second format is that LIB submitted to PSSI some time ago and was leaked on social media. However, the majority of League 2 clubs rejected the format in question.

In the latest format that has received approval from Erick, the teams participating in the Indonesian League 2 will be divided into four groups. Each of these groups contains seven contestants.

"The top three in each group step to the top 12. The remaining 16 are in four groups. The lowest rankings of each group, death or relegation. So, there are eight relegation teams," said Ferry.

The teams that qualify for the round of 12 will return to the match. They will be divided into three groups where the group winners along with the best runners-up enter the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, 16 teams that are not included in the top 12 will compete for their status in League 2 or relegated to League 3.

The Indonesian League 2 season 2023/2024 is scheduled to start between September 3 and 10. This means before the FIFA Match Day starts that month.

For next season, Liga 2 will also implement regulations for two foreign players for each club. This was taken after discussing with all the bottom second-tier competition clubs.
