Sah! 4 Stadiums Become U-17 World Cup Venues 2023, Erick Thohir: FIFA Announces

JAKARTA - PSSI General Chairperson (Ketum) Erick Thohir revealed the results of a meeting with FIFA regarding the 2023 U-17 World Cup venue. Of the eight stadiums proposed, FIFA decided that the four stadiums would be used as venues.

Although it has stated that only four stadiums are used for the U-17 World Cup venue, Erick Thohir said that for more details it is FIFA's authority to announce it.

"Now there are only 94 days to go to the U-17 World Cup and of course the funds that must be disbursed must be as efficient as possible. Therefore, from the eight stadiums, the results of the meeting with FIFA, we agreed on four stadiums (for venues)," said Erick Thohir in Senayan on Monday, August 7th.

"Why are there four stadiums? Because we are thinking about logistics too, flying here and there, it must be taken into account. Therefore, there is an agreement with FIFA, but the one who will announce FIFA, yes, not me," he continued.

Previously in July, representatives of FIFA visited Indonesia to inspect four stadiums. The four stadiums are the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Si Jalak Harupat (Bandung), Gelora Bung Tomo (Surabaya), and Manahan (Solo).

From the results of the inspection, it was agreed that Jakarta and Bandung would hold a two-group match, while Solo and Surabaya each had one group. Meanwhile, the finals will take place in Jakarta and the closing will be held in Solo.

As a follow-up to discuss the four venues, the plan is to hold a meeting on Wednesday, August 9. The agenda will also be presented by governors whose stadiums in their area will be used for the 2023 U-17 World Cup.

"From the agreement, Mr. Bas (Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of PUPR) will invite another meeting on Wednesday, August 9) Insha Allah," explained Erick Thohir.
