Oldest Footballer At Professional Level Increases Work Duration In Portuguese League 2 Club

JAKARTA - Kazuyoshi Miura doesn't seem to want to stop his career even though he is 56 years old. The oldest footballer at the professional level is now officially increasing his tenure.

Miura officially extended her loan contract with Portugal's second caste club, Oliveirense. That means the Japanese will continue to play professional football until the age of 57 years.

Although there are no details on how long the contract will take, the player who has the nickname "King Kazu" will at least play with Oliveirense until next year.

"Miura Kazu will continue at UD Oliveirense," the Portuguese club tweeted on the club's Twitter account, as reported by Antara, on Wednesday, July 12.

Miura joined Oliveirense in January on loan from Japan's J1 League promotion team, Yokohama FC. In November the owner of Yokohama, Onodera Group became the majority shareholder of the Portuguese second division club.

Kazu has recorded 89 matches with the Japanese national team and scored 55 goals from 1990 to 2000. While at club level, he has scored 786 appearances and scored 218 goals since starting his career in 1990

Miura also briefly represented the Japanese futsal team in 2012, and was called up for the 2012 Futsal World Cup at the age of 45.

He had previously said he wanted to continue playing until the age of 60.

Miura made her official debut in the Portuguese League 2 match when her team won 4-1 against Academico de Viseu on April 22, 2023. Last season, she appeared in three matches with a total playing time of 26 minutes.
