JAKARTA - Formula 1 operator officially released the schedule for the 2024 season. There will be 24 races held with Bahrain as the opening.

The race at the Sakhir Bahrain Circuit will be held on March 2. Meanwhile, the closing series will be held in Abu Dhabi on December 8.

"I am pleased to announce the 2024 calendar with 24 races that will present a pleasant season for our fans around the world," said Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali as quoted by the official F1 website.

Organizers hope to move towards a larger calendar regionalization, reduce logistics burdens, and make the racing season sustainable.

Domenicali said, by moving the Japanese GP to April, the Azerbaijan GP to September, and the Qatar GP back-to-back with the Abu Dhabi GP, this calendar is expected to create a better raceflow in certain areas.

"Our journey to a more sustainable calendar will continue in the coming years as we further streamline the operation as part of our Net Zero 2030 commitment. We have many races to look forward to in 2023, including the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix," he added, as reported by Antara.

Meanwhile, for the opening two races of the season in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the Grand Prix will take place on Saturday. This decision was taken in honor of Muslim fans to carry out worship in the month of Ramadan.

On the other hand, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem added that his party wanted to make the car racing championship more efficient in terms of environmental sustainability and facilitating travel accommodation for staff and all related parties.

"As we move forward into the future, we must ensure that our priorities grow and develop with the needs of society, and what is best for our sport, our fans, and our environment," said Mohammed.
