JAKARTA - Sergio Ramos officially left Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after his contract was not extended. The Spanish player's contract expires at the end of this season.

Ramos was brought in from Real Madrid in the 2021 season to fill the heart of the PSG defense after being left by experienced defender Thiago Silva to Chelsea.

"Tomorrow is a special day, tomorrow I say goodbye to another stage of my life, goodbye PSG," wrote Sergio Ramos as quoted from his official social media.

In his first season in Le Parisiens uniform, the Spanish national team player struggled more with injury matters that often recur and made him rarely appear on the field.

"Thank you for these two beautiful years where I can participate in all championships and give my best of myself," said the former captain of the Spanish national team, quoted from Antara, Saturday, June 3.

Together with PSG, the 37-year-old has contributed two Ligue 1 or French League trophies in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, as well as one French Super Cup trophy in the 2022 season.

PSG and Sergio Ramos did not reach a common ground regarding contract extensions after PSG made a policy to reduce the player's salary a little to avoid financial Fair Play (FFP) sanctions.

The policy issued by PSG will sacrifice a number of star players who have never received a contract renewal. Apart from Sergio Ramos, Lionel Messi is reportedly getting closer to getting to the exit from PSG.

As a replacement for Sergio Ramos in the back line, PSG is rumored to have explored efforts to bring in Milan defender Skriniar who is still strengthening Inter Milan until the end of June.

Sergio Ramos, who is now a free agent, is associated with a number of reports that he will play in the Arab League following his old Real Madrid partner Cristiano Ronaldo who first came on the January transfer window.
