JAKARTA - The president of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, is complaining. He questioned the value of the broadcasting rights of the Women's World Cup which did not match his expectations.
Infantino complained about the price of broadcasting rights for the Women's World Cup which he said was too small compared to the Men's World Cup.
In an official statement, the FIFA president said his party had not sold the tournament broadcast rights to the main market because of its value that had not met expectations.
"The offers from broadcasting companies, especially from the top five European countries, are still very disappointing," said Infantino.
Infantino also emphasized that the income obtained would later return to the world of women's football for development.
The Italian man accused broadcasting companies of only offering between one million and ten million dollars to broadcast the Women's World Cup. Very far compared to the price of approximately 100 million dollars to 200 million dollars for the broadcasting rights of the Men's World Cup.
The five countries are estimated to be England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
"So that it is clear, it is our moral responsibility and our obligation not to sell the Women's World Cup (circular rights) at too low prices. Therefore, if the incoming offers are still unfair, we will force them not to broadcast the Women's World Cup to the "five big" European countries," said Infantino.
Due to the difference in time zones, the Women's World Cup matches will not be shown in prime time in Europe. However Infantino said it was not an excuse.
"Maybe because (Women's World Cup) is played in Australia and New Zealand, it's not the main broadcast time in Europe, but still, it's played at 9 p.m. or 10 a.m., then it's still a reasonable time," said Infantino.
