Daihatsu LCGC Market Down In Last Few Months, ADM: Optimistic To Improve Until The End Of The Year

JAKARTA - Based on data released by the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) for October 2023, several automotive manufacturers in the country experienced a decline in sales, including Daihatsu, especially in the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) segment.

The manufacturer, known to like to present the LCGC model in Indonesia, has experienced a decline in wholesale sales over the past two months. In October, they recorded sales of 6,598 units. Meanwhile, in the previous two months, sales reached 6,939 units in September and 8,413 vehicles in August.

Responding to this, Sri Agung Handayani, Marketing Director and Corporate Planning & Communication of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), stated that the LCGC Daihatsu market is still in the recovery stage, and his party is trying its best to meet market needs.

"Basically, we are trying to meet market needs as quickly as possible. LCGC Daihatsu wholesale sales until October 2023 have even increased compared to overall LCGC market growth," Agung said when contacted by VOI on Wednesday, November 22.

Nevertheless, Agung added that he is optimistic that sales will increase until the end of 2023 and Daihatsu will maintain its position as one of the manufacturers with the most LCGC sales.

"We hope the market remains positive until the end of the year," said Agung.

In terms of retail sales, this Japanese manufacturer managed to reach more than 164 thousand units in October 2023, an increase of 4.4 percent compared to the previous period. Thus, Daihatsu contributed 19.9 percent to the country's automotive market share, up 0.8 percent compared to last year.

In detail, the retail sales of the Daihatsu model are still dominated by Sigra, reaching 53,189 units or contributing around 32.4 percent. Followed by GranMax Pick-Up with 36,082 units or contributing 22 percent, and Terios which completes the top three with 21,385 units or 13 percent of total sales.

The top three models were followed by several other series, including Ayla with 19,092 units (11 percent), Xenia 15,622 units (9.5 percent), GranMax Minibus 10,535 units (6.4 percent), Rocky 5,483 units (3.3 percent), Luxio 2,388 units (1.5 percent), and Sirion 495 units (0.3 percent).
