MANADO - Manado's Center for Drug and Food Supervisory (BBPOM), North Sulawesi (Sulut), conducted food safety tests ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations.

"So there are two market locations that we carry out food safety tests from dangerous chemicals, namely the Pinasungkulan Market and the Tuminting Market," said Head of the Manado BBPOM Food Inspection Team Imelda Ntung in Manado, Antara, Tuesday, December 17.

He said some of the dangerous chemicals tested in processed food samples were bolaks, rhodamin B, metany yellow, and formalin.

"Why do we do testing because at these moments the level of public consumption of processed foods has increased," he said.

BBPOM Manado, he said, must oversee so that when people buy processed food products, quality and safety are guaranteed. In addition to conducting tests for food raw materials, he continued, BBPOM Manado also supervises retail facilities such as shops in Pinasungkulan Market and Tuminting Market.

"So we focus on products that, for example, without distribution permits, expired products, as well as damaged products, such as milk with paded packaging. We ask sellers not to sell milk packaging that has been supporting consumers," said Imelda.

He added that in the two large markets in Manado City, 20 samples were each taken randomly.

"Well, the results are all negative for Rhodamin B coloring, bolaks, methyl yellow, or formalin," said Imelda.
