Ask The Government To Be Prepared For Extreme Weather, Deputy Head Of DPR Urges For Infrastructure Improvement At Disaster Locations To Be Motivated

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal asked the government to increase preparedness in the midst of the recent extreme weather in Indonesia.

Cucun also reminded the government to immediately restore infrastructure in disaster-hit locations.

"The government must form an emergency response quick team to strengthen disaster response operations in the midst of extreme weather that hit Indonesia. This is to ensure public safety from the risk of a disaster impact," said Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, Monday, December 16.

"The floods and landslides that have occurred in Indonesia recently must also make the Government accelerate infrastructure improvements so that public comfort is not increasingly disrupted," he continued.

He urged the government to immediately distribute aid to disaster victims. The reason is, access to the mobility of aid to residents for landslides is often disrupted.

"So the government must really make refugees the top priority in every disaster management effort," said Cucun.

After Sukabumi, Cucun also highlighted the landslide disaster that occurred in Karang Tengah Village, Pagedangan District, Tangerang Regency to Parung Panjang, Bogor, and the South Cross Line (JLS) in Donomulyo, Malang Regency, East Java. Cucun reminded that disaster management must prioritize the interests of the community.

"The government must be able to ensure the safety and welfare of the community, as well as reduce the bad effects of natural disasters," he said.

According to Cucun, the formation and strengthening of the emergency response team must be trained professionally to deal with victims. Such as providing quick help to the affected communities.

"The team must be able to ensure that all basic needs for disaster victims are provided, such as food, clean water, medicines, and temporary shelters," explained Cucun.

In addition, he emphasized the importance of synergy and coordination between agencies to ensure synergy between the central government, regional governments, and disaster management agencies in dealing with emergency situations for the effectiveness of disaster management.

"What is more important is that the Government also needs to ensure the availability of emergency funds that can be used quickly and transparently for disaster management, so that people do not have to wait long to get assistance," he explained.

The government including BNPB, BMKG, and Basarnas are asked to adopt a data-based disaster mitigation strategy. Then, optimizing rehabilitation and increasing infrastructure that is resistant to the risk of natural disasters as a long-term step.

He considered that Indonesia needed careful planning in dealing with the threat of natural disasters.

"The government must ensure that roads, bridges, and drainage channels are designed to withstand high rainfall and potential landslides as well as periodic monitoring and maintenance of infrastructure," said Cucun.

"Moreover, currently the predictions from the BMKG say extreme weather will still occur for some time to come," he concluded.
