Riau Prosecutor's Office Names Former Chancellor Of UIN Suska Suspect For Campus Fund Corruption

Former expenditure treasurer of UIN Suska Riau Veny Aprilya has been named a suspect in alleged corruption in the management of funds from the Regional Business Service Agency (BLUD) (ANTARA).

PeKANBARU - Riau High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) has named former Chancellor of the State Islamic University (UIN) Sultan Syarif Kasim II, Akhmad Mujahidin and former expenditure treasurer Veny Aprilya as suspects in the alleged corruption in the management of funds from the Regional Business Service Agency (BLUD) on campus.

The team of investigating prosecutors in the Special Crimes Division (Pidsus) of the Riau Prosecutor's Office immediately detained Veny Aprilya. Meanwhile, Akhmad Mujahidin has already been detained in another corruption case.

"Based on the evidence found, two suspects, former UIN Chancellor Suska Riau with the initials AM, are currently serving a crime and have been detained in the detention center. The suspects of the two treasurers VA and detained in the Women's Prison for the next 20 days," said Assistant for Special Crimes at the Riau Attorney General's Office, Imran Yusuf, quoted by ANTARA Wednesday, November 22.

In this alleged corruption case, there is the role of the two suspects in financial management. Based on the results of the auditor of the Audit Board for Finance and Development of the Riau Representative, it was found that state losses amounted to Rp7.6 billion.

"Investigators will maximize the investigation of the two suspects. If new facts are found later and evidence of other responsible parties will be named suspects to the public," said Imran.

Previously, it was known that former UIN Chancellor Suska Riau Akhmad Mujahidin had also been caught in a corruption case. He was sentenced to 2 years and 10 months in prison for being proven to have colluded in the procurement of the 2020-2021 internet network during a trial at the Pekanbaru District Court, January 18, 2023.

The verdict was read by Chief Judge Tombel Ginting. Mujahidin accompanied by his attorney followed the trial by teleconference.

"The defendant was found guilty of collusion together. Sentencing him to 2 years and 10 months in prison and a fine of Rp. 200 million, a subsidiary of 4 months," said Judge Tomel Ginting.

The verdict decided by the panel of judges was 2 months lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU), which was 3 years in prison.
