Bawaslu Emphasizes The Importance Of The Role Of Religious Leaders To Reduce Political Tennision For The 2024 Election

Chairman of Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja, emphasized the importance of the role of religious leaders in easing political tensions ahead of the 2024 General Election. Bagja even predicts that political tension on social media will increase after the determination of presidential and vice presidential candidates.

Bagja expressed his views after attending a discussion on election neutrality and the threat of democracy at the PPP DPP office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Sunday, November 12.

According to Bagja, in the competitive general election process, there may be mutual attacks, both in arguments and in political strategies among the nation's children.

"This is very important, yesterday there was a discussion with Romo at KWI. We explain the important role of religious leaders and the centrality of religious leaders in calming the community in the democratic process, especially in elections that must be competitive," he said.

"Competitives will usually attack each other, both in arguments and in political strategies. This is natural in an election competition," continued Bagja.

Bagja even predicts that political tension on social media will increase after the determination of the presidential and vice presidential candidates.

"So, the rules are clear. For example, the prohibition on the use of state facilities or government facilities used for campaigns. Government offices should also not be used as a place of campaign. Everything already has rules. Therefore, we will see, after the determination of the presidential and vice presidential candidates, the tension on social media will be high, even higher than today," he added.

In addition to affirming the importance of the role of religious leaders in calming society during the democratic process, Bagja also invited the public to respect each other even though they had different choices in determining the presidential and vice presidential pairs.
