Inaugurating PLTS Cirata, Jokowi: The Third Largest Solar Power Plant In The World

JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the operation of the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 192 Megawatt Peak (MWp), in Purwakarta Regency, West Java, as the largest in Southeast Asia and number three in the world. "We succeeded in building one of the largest floating solar power plants in Southeast Asia and number three," said Jokowi in his speech on the inauguration of the Cirata Floating PLTS operations followed in the Presidential Secretariat network quoted by ANTARA, Thursday 9 November. Jokowi said that the PLTS operation of the cooperation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the Ministry of BUMN, PLN, and the United Arab Emirate Masdar was Indonesia's big dream of building a new renewable energy plant on a large scale.Masdar is a company that focuses on the development, investment, and operations of renewable energy projects from Saudi Arabia. Jokowi said, the Citata Floating PLTS increased the existing electric production capacity of the Water Power Plant (PLTA) in the local region which has now been recorded to reach 1,000 Megawatts (MW). "In Cirata, there is already a PLTA with a capacity of 1,000 MW, and now added to a floating PLTS of 192 MWp. In the future, if maximized, it could add approximately 1,000 MWp," he said. Jokowi also welcomes the presence of PLTS and PLTA in Cirata which is projected to be a source of green energy supply. "So, later the water power can be for green energy as well, I am happy and proud to see that this floating PLTS in Cirata has been completed," he said. Jokowi believes that Indonesia will be able to take advantage of the renewable new energy potential of a number of technologies available in the country, such as solar and wind-powered energy plants.

"Potensi yang ada di Sumatra, Kalimantan, dan Sulawesi bisa disalurkan ke pusat-center ekonomi," katanya.Hadir mendampingi Presiden Jokowi dalam agenda pemilikan tersebut, di antaranya Menteri BUMN Erick Thohir bersama perwakilan pejabat dari Masdar Uni Emirate Arab.
