YAMP Remembers The Late Suharto, The Former President Of The Republic Of Indonesia Who Built 999 Mosques As A Result Of Civil Servants And The TNI

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Pancasila Muslim Amalbakti Foundation (YAMP) Panji Adhikumoro Suharto visited a number of mosques in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to commemorate his grandfather, the late Suharto, former President of the Republic of Indonesia, who was also the chairman of YAMP.

YaMP Secretary, Marsono said that the arrival of Panji was part of the implementation of the YAMP program which continued to establish contact with mosque administrators, spread throughout Indonesia.

It should be noted that Pak Harto managed to build 999 mosques throughout Indonesia, not using APBN funds. But through raising alms from civil servants (PNS) and members of the Muslim TNI through YAMP.

There are a number of mosques built by Pak Harto in the NTT region, especially in Kupang and its surroundings. According to records contained in the book 999 of Pak Harto Mosque Volume 5 in NTT, there are 15 YAMP mosques spread across various islands.

Especially for Kupang City, there are 4 mosques, namely Al Muttaqien Mosque in Kelapa Lima, Baiturrahman Grand Mosque in Kota Lama, Nurul Iman Mosque in Oebobo, and Darul Hijrah Mosque in Maulafa.

The mosques were built by Pak Harto to facilitate Muslims who needed limited worship facilities at that time.

The construction of these mosques took place between 1987-1997 and has now grown rapidly. In addition to being a center for Muslim worship in the area, the YAMP Mosque also acts as a center for civilization activities such as education, health services, and various economic activities of the people.

During the series of visits, Panji handed over souvenirs in the form of Al Qur'an Mushaf Istiqlal and a number of Yasin books.
