Sand Mining In Sukabumi Landslide Hoarding Miners

SUKABUMI - The sand mine belonging to residents in Cilutung Village, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, suddenly collapsed, causing three miners to be affected by the disaster.

"From the report of the Warungkiara District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK), three miners were victims, one of whom was buried and the other two managed to save themselves," said Public Relations of the Sukabumi Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sandra Fitria, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 1.

According to information compiled from BPBD, this incident began when three miners, namely Misja, Uca, and Hendi, returned to mining sand located at RT 01/02, Girijaya Village, Warungkiara District, at around 13.00 WIB after resting, praying, and eating.

These three miners, as usual, mined sand and at that time the weather was sunny, there was no sign of a landslide. However, at around 13.55 WIB, the sandy soil cliff above Misja suddenly collapsed.

Uca and Hendi, who saw the incident, spontaneously ran to a safer place. But Misja did not manage to escape and his body was buried. Mining activities immediately stopped and a number of fellow victims tried to save and evacuate victims from the pile of landslides.

To save the victims, miners and local residents carried out excavations at the point where Misja's body was buried by landslide material. But unfortunately the residents struggled and were unable to evacuate the victims.

Not long after, the Sukabumi Regency BPBD Task Force (Satgas) arrived at the location to assist the evacuation process.

At around 16.05 WIB the victim was finally successfully evacuated safely even though he had been buried for about two hours. Misja was then rushed to Sekarwangi Hospital in Cibadak for treatment.

"There were no fatalities in this incident. For victims who were buried by landslides, their condition had improved and were not seriously injured or seriously," said Sandra.

After the landslide, joint officers from elements of the TNI, Polri, and local government were still in the vicinity of the incident and prohibited residents or anyone from approaching, and the mine site from operating were prohibited from worrying about further landslides.
