Ready For Rainy Season, Eri Cahyadi Ensures 2 New Pump Houses Solution To Overcome Surabaya Floods

Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi hopes that the two new pump houses in Elveka Kebonsari and SWK Karah Jambangan will be solutions to overcome flooding in southern Surabaya.

"The pump house is to pull the dump into the nearest river, so we need those flows," said Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi when inaugurating the pomba house in Jambangan Surabaya as reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 27.

According to him, this pump house is part of a flood management program that is being worked on by the city government (Pemkot) in the southern Surabaya area.

The construction of this new pump house, he continued, is the duty and task of the city government in tackling flooding. He ensured that these two pump houses could overcome flooding in the Jambangan area and its surroundings when the rainfall was high, because water would be easily channeled into the river.

According to him, to overcome flooding or inundation in the city of Surabaya, it is not possible to rely solely on gravity. If you rely solely on gravity, there will be the potential for flooding or inundation, because water flowing through the channel will take longer to get to the river.

"So that these pieces (the flow), to speed up the flow of water to the nearest river. God willing, by inaugurating these two pump houses, the Jambangan area, Ketintang, and its surroundings (floods) can already be reduced, I hope there will be no more flooding in this area," he said.

The two pump houses, which are worked on by the Surabaya City Water Resources and Highways Service (DSDABM), are each equipped with two drainage pump units which have a total capacity of 6 cubic meters per second. Not only that, both of them are also equipped with one wedge pump unit with a capacity of 0.5 cubic meters per second.

Although the specifications are the same, this pump house has different service tasks. The Elveka Kebonsari pump house will serve the Wonorejo Avour (drainage system), Ketintang Madya, Ketintang Selatan Raya, Kebonagung Channel, Ketintang Madya 2 Channel, Ketintang Madya 7 Channel, and Ketintang Permai.

Meanwhile, the SWK Karah pump house will serve the Karah Agung Road, Bibis Karah Street, Karah Street, Karah Indah Housing 1, Karah Indah 2 Housing, and Avour Wonorejo on the Karah Agung side.

"Hopefully this can be a solution, how can we overcome flooding in the Ketintang, Jambangan and surrounding areas," he said.

In addition to preventing flooding and inundation from using pump houses, before entering the rainy season at the end of next year, Mayor Eri has prepared another strategy, namely by signing a letter of commitment with all heads of RT, RW, LPMK, sub-district head, village head, and PD head ranks within the Surabaya City Government. In the commitment letter, listed data on which village areas are still flooded and inundated.
