Minister Of Communication And Information: Indonesia's Internet Speed Ranks 98th In The World

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi revealed a number of things that are homework or homework related to internet connectivity.

"So there are three issues of connectivity, one capacity, the second coverage (coverage), the third quality," said the Minister of Communication and Information in a discussion on the Merdeka Barat 9 Forum, in Jakarta, Tuesday, October 24, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said that currently there is only 78 percent of internet penetration in Indonesia, which means that there are still 22 percent of Indonesian citizens who do not have internet access.

On the other hand, the quality of the national internet, said Budi Arie, is also still a big job, because the average internet speed is at 22 mbps.

"We are only number 9 out of 10 in Asia. In our world we are ranked 98th in terms of internet speed. This is a big homework. If we want to become a developed country, this matter of internet speed will also be our concern," he said.

Budi emphasized that internet connectivity is very important for digital transformation which is being encouraged by the government, as well as digital literacy in society.

"Because this digital transformation includes all things, the digital infrastructure, the digital government is e-government, the digital economy and the last is digital society. So all four pillars must go," he said.

Budi Arie further said that Indonesia is a unique geographical country filled with mountains and contours. Therefore, digital infrastructure in Indonesia, he said, cannot rely solely on one technology.

"Our digital infrastructure cannot use one technology option, but it varies. For example, fiber optics for urban areas. For 3T or outermost areas, it must be satellite technology. So what is called the sky toll road means we combine various choices of technology," he said.
