KPU Will Hold A Debat For Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates 5 Times

JAKARTA - The chairman of the KPU Technical Division, Idham Holik, said that the campaign in the form of a presidential and vice presidential debate in the 2024 presidential election is likely to be held five times. This, said Idham, refers to existing regulations.

However, the KPU has not yet compiled and set an official schedule for the presidential and vice-presidential candidates debate.

"It's true (planned five times the debate)," said Idham to reporters, Monday, October 23.

Idham said Article 277 of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections or Election Law clearly stated that the debate between candidate pairs in the presidential election would be held five times. In addition, said Idham, the debate will be broadcast openly and broadcast nationally.

It's just that, said Idham, the KPU has not yet compiled and detailed the debate. This is because the presidential and vice-presidential candidates have not been determined.

"The new KPU on November 13, 2023 has determined that the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs will remain and a day later will only draw serial numbers for presidential and vice presidential candidates, November 14, 2023. So the debate schedule for presidential and vice presidential candidates does not yet exist," he explained.

It is known that the registration of presidential and vice-presidential candidates to the KPU starts from October 19, 2023 to October 25, 2023. Then the verification of the required documents will be continued until the proposal for a replacement of candidates from October 19 to November 12, 2023.

Furthermore, the determination of the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair on November 13, 2023 and continued the draw and determination of the candidate pair serial number on November 14, 2023. Then, the campaign period will be held from November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024.

In the 2019 presidential election, the presidential and vice presidential debate was also held five times. At that time the debate was held in January, February, March, to April 2019. Likewise in the 2014 presidential election, the KPU held five presidential and vice presidential debates, namely four times in June and once in July 2014.
