Isolated, Monkeypox Patients In Jakarta Improve

JAKARTA - Plt. Head of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Ani Ruspitawati, said that the findings of a new case of monkeypox in Jakarta were being isolated.

The confirmed monkeypox patient is being treated at a hospital in the capital city. Now, Ani said his condition is starting to improve.

"Monkeypox sufferers have been isolated and are now improving. Indeed, we are approaching those concerned to want to be isolated so that they are also safe and are now in good condition," Ani told reporters, Wednesday, October 18.

The man who confirmed the monkeypox case is known to have no history of overseas travel. Ani said there is a possibility that the person concerned was infected from someone else here.

However, this has not been confirmed because the DKI Health Office is still investigating or tracing the patient's close contacts.

"Maybe the couple and close contacts are from abroad. We are still looking for it and we can't search it completely," explained Ani.

Thus, it is possible that there are other cases of monkeypox in Indonesia that have not been detected.

"Potensi masih ada karena kan memang active Case finding. Jadi, begitu ada satu kasus, kita aktif mencari kita menemukan. Nanti kalau sampai kluster sudah aman, nanti kita swab semua," jealsnya.

It is known, the findings of the monkeypox case in the 26-year-old man were reported on October 14, 2023.

With the findings of the new case, there are currently two cases of monkeypox in Indonesia after it was first discovered on August 20, 2022.

Monkeypox cases found in Indonesia are generally imported cases or originating from abroad.

Those exposed generally experience certain symptoms, such as acute fever of more than 38.5 degrees Celsius accompanied by headaches, muscle aches, back pain, fatigue, and rashes on the skin.

At least, the number of confirmed cases of monkeypox worldwide has reached 90,618 cases with the death toll reaching 517 cases out of 115 countries.

The United States is the country that most reported case findings, while in Asia the findings of the most cases were dominated by China, Thailand, and Japan.
