KAI Involves KNKT Investigating The Drop Of Argo Semeru Train In Wates

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) conducted an investigation into the incident of the fall of the Argo Semeru Train, the Surabaya Gubeng-Gambir relationship between Sentolo-Stasiun Wates Station, Kulon Progo.

"We are coordinating with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to investigate the cause of the fall of the train," said KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo in Kulon Progo, Wednesday, October 18, as quoted by Antara.

Didiek said KAI had examined the driver of the Argo Semeru train which fell on Tuesday, October 17 at around 13.15 WIB.

Based on the interim examination, he said, the driver of the Argo Wilis train had braking. However, the distance that was too close made the bump unavoidable.

"We have not dared to conclude the cause of yesterday's incident. Moreover, the condition of the train is also roadworthy, and all procedures have been carried out," he said.

However, Didiek Hartantyo said that KAI continues to explore the cause of Argo Semeru's train, the Surabaya Gubeng-Gambir relationship.

"We continue to explore this incident and monitor train activities after the incident," he said.

Regarding the condition of the passengers, Didiek said there were 32 people from the Argo Semeru train who had to get treatment. A total of 28 passengers were in shock, but could be sent home immediately.

While four other people were rushed to the hospital, three of them have been sent home. However, one person is still undergoing hospitalization until now.

"Because the person concerned suffered an injury to his head due to a collision," said Didiek.

Director of Railway Safety of the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) Erni Basri said that until now the investigation is still ongoing.

However, he has not been able to reveal the details of his progress so far. The team is still investigating this incident.

"All train activities always run according to procedures. The driver has also been trained and works according to the standards he has," he said.
