JAKARTA - The Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board together with the General Elections Commission (KPU) signed a memorandum of understanding or MoU regarding the socialization of voter education for the 2024 General Election.
The signing of this collaboration was carried out by PBNU General Chair Yahya Cholil Staquf together with KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari at the PBNU Central Building, Jakarta, Friday, October 13.
"MoU contains an agreement between PBNU and the KPU in organizing various forms of activities, especially voter education activities. To socialize various rules and information on our election," said Gus Yahya, Yahya Cholil Staquf's nickname.
Gus Yahya said that there are many NU programs at the grassroots that can be collaborated on election political education.
According to him, political education is one of the main programs of PBNU management for NU residents. Thus this collaboration is the right step in strengthening political education in society.
"That NU's interest in Indonesian politics is the safety of the nation and state, no more or less," he said.
Gus Yahya emphasized that there are two things that want to be achieved in the electoral education process. The first political system went well and did not fail.
Second, guarding the democratic process continues according to the path and according to the values contained in Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
"Of all that, the election is the most basic starting point because the entire political construction from time to time is built from the election. People's trust in politics depends on people's trust in the election," he said.
Meanwhile, KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said PBNU as one of the largest religious organizations in Indonesia has an important role in providing an understanding of democratic education.
He also asked for PBNU's support so that the five-year democratic party could run smoothly.
"We hope that NU as a congregation and congregation will make a big contribution in providing democratic development in the 2024 election," said Hasyim.
