Suwung Denpasar TPA Fire Smoke Does Not Disturb Ngurah Rai Airport Flight Activities

Head of the Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) I Made Rentin said the fire at the Suwung Final Disposal Site (TPA), Denpasar City, Bali, was still being extinguished. Smoke is said to have not interfered with the flight activities of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali.

Rentin said the joint team with a total of 10 fire fighting units. Heavy equipment was also deployed to open access to hotspots at TPA Suwung.

"This heavy equipment is to pave the way for access to hotspots so that firefighters can move more easily to spray water," said Rentin, in a written statement, Thursday, October 12.

The cause of the fire is thought to be due to a relatively long drought and is suspected of triggering sparks and this condition is exacerbated by the strong winds.

While the fire was quite large and the puff of smoke rose high, so far it has been under control and has not disrupted public activities, especially activities at Ngurah Rai International Airport.

"I have called my colleagues at the airport (I Gusti Ngurah Rai) and stated that they are safe and under control, so far normal flights", he added.

His party with the Head of the Bali Province Forestry and Environment Service are still at the location, leading operations and directing personnel for the blackout process.

"For anticipatory steps, two ambulances from the Bali BPBD and Denpasar City BPBD were also alerted," he said.
