Hundreds Of Hectares Of Rice In Tulungagung Failed To Harvest

TULUNGAGUNG - More than 300 hectares of rice plants in five sub-districts of Tulungagung Regency, East Java were affected by drought which caused adult rice crops to experience crop failure.

Temporary data submitted by the Tulungagung Regency Agriculture Service until early October, the rice fields that have experienced puso reached 44 hectares.

"This has been affected and experienced crop failure. The potential is widespread. There are many rice fields that are currently short of water supply so the risk of crop failure is wider," said Tulungagung Regency POPT Coordinator, Gatot Rahayu in Tulungagung as reported by ANTARA, Monday, October 9.

Rice Fields that have been confirmed to fail to harvest occurred in Pakel and Bandung sub-districts. Rivers dry up, water sources are also lost so that farmers get water supply to irrigate their fields.

"If the area of rice fields affected by drought actually has 348 hectares. Around 44 hectares have now been reported to have failed to harvest, others have the potential to experience similar conditions (harvest failure)," he said.

He explained that there are three villages with potential for puso rice fields in Bandung sub-district, namely Bulus Village, Bantengan Village, and Ng uploading villages.

In Pakel District there are 10 villages, namely Bono Village, Pakel Village, Duwet Village, Sukanyar Village, Ngrance Village, Bangunjaya Village, Sambitan Village, Tamban Village, Suwaru Village and Gombang Village.

"Puso has occurred since July," he said.

Gatot explained that in June there was still rain in Tulungagung Regency. Estimates that like 2022 there will be a wet drought, farmers will return to planting rice.

However, in July it turned out that the dry season had entered which resulted in rice fields not getting water for irrigation.

"Tanaman yang puso mulai usia satu bulan sampai yang hampir panen," ujarnya.
