Responding To 17 Thousand Hectares Of Land In Rempang As Industrial Estates, Jusuf Kalla: Why Should People Move?

KEPRI - Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) Jusuf Kalla (JK) highlighted that around 17,000 hectares of land on Pulau Rempang, Batam City, Riau Islands (Kepri). Thousands of hectares of the land will be used for investment in industrial areas.

"Why does he (investor) want to control 17 thousand hectares? That's the main thing," he said in a discussion on the Settlement of the Case of Pulau Rempang, which was attended at the Head Office of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Jakarta, Friday, October, which was confiscated by Antara.

Furthermore, JK questioned the relocation of the local community, which caused them to move from their homes.

"Why do people have to move? While the area is 17 thousand hectares, what's wrong?" said the 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia.

JK, who is also an entrepreneur, assesses that a company cannot control an island personally. Moreover, Pulau Rempang is an island located in a quite strategic location.

According to him, the use of the island of Rempang for investment can cause the national economy to be controlled by foreigners, as well as to the territory of the country, which can threaten the sovereignty of the nation.

Therefore, he suggested that investment be made by the Government, one of which is through investment that can be made by State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN).

It is known that the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia explained that out of a total of 17,600 hectares of Rempang Island, only about 8,142 hectares could be developed, because the rest were protected forest areas. The area consists of 570 hectares of areas with the status of APL (Other Use Areal) and an area of 7,572 hectares with the status of HPK (Convention Production Forest) status.

Furthermore, Bahlil expressed his disappointment because there was a lot of wild information circulating on social media about the investment plan in Rempang. He even admitted that he was commented on as a minister who lied and was stupid because of the milling illegal news.

"So not all of them are 17 thousand (useable). Sometimes I am confused, we say that illegal information is more hahih than correct information," said Bahlil, Monday, October 2.
