High Waves Predicted To Appear In Bali Waters, Shipping On The Island Of The Gods Is Expected To Be Alert

JAKARTA - Head of the Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BBMKG) Region III Denpasar Cahyo Nugroho asked tourists and fishermen to be aware of the potential sea wave heights in the Badung Strait, Bali reaching 2.5 meters from September 29 to October 1, 2023.

"The general public, fishermen and marine tourism actors are aware of the potential for high waves," he said as quoted by Antara in Denpasar, Thursday (28/9).

The Badung Strait is a fishing route for fishing, a marine tourism area, and a crossing from mainland Bali to Nusa Penida Island, Klungkung Regency.

Not only that, but the Badung Strait was also traversed by shipping ships from the Port of Benoa Denpasar to a number of destinations in eastern Indonesia.

Meanwhile, in tourist areas bordering the Badung Strait, among them are the waters of Nusa Dua which attracts many domestic and foreign tourists to carry out marine activities, including swimming, snorkling, and other water sports.

In addition, Nusa Dua waters are also a seaweed farm area.

Meanwhile, the wave height in the Benoa Port area of Denpasar is also estimated to reach up to 2.5 meters.

Not only in the Badung Strait, but sea waves are estimated to reach 2.5 meters and also have the potential to occur in the southern part of the Bali Strait, the southern part of the Lombok Strait.

The Bali Strait is a crossing that connects Bali Island through Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana Regency with Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi Regency, East Java.

Meanwhile, the Lombok Strait is a crossing that connects Bali Island through the Padangbai Port in Karangasem Regency to Lembar Harbor in Lombok, NTB.

The Lombok Strait is also a route for shipping ships from Bali to eastern Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the southern waters of Bali are estimated to have a sea wave height of up to four meters.

The average wind speed is estimated to be up to 15 knots or 27 kilometers per hour.

According to BBMKG, wind conditions and sea waves that are at high risk of sailing safety are fishing boats if the wind speed is more than 15 knots and the wave height is above 1.25 meters.

The barge if the wind speed is more than 16 knots and the wave height is above 1.5 meters, the ferry if the wind speed is more than 21 knots and the wave height is above 2.5 meters.
