The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has again recorded the eruption activity that came out of the crater of Mount Ibu on Halmahera Island, North Maluku.
Officer of the Gunung Ibu Monitoring Post, Ahmad Basuki, said the eruption occurred at 22:26 WIT with a column of ash as high as approximately 1,000 meters.
"The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the northeast," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 25.
Ahmad said the eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 22 millimeters and a duration of approximately 1 minute.
According to him, the threat of an eruption is still far from residential areas, which are six to seven kilometers from the crater of the volcano.
On September 25, 2023, Mount Ibu was recorded as experiencing an eruption of gray thick ash heading northeastern. The eruption occurred at 07.12 WIT with a ash height of 1,500 meters.
PVMBG asks the public not to move within a two-kilometer radius and to expand sectorally within 3.5 kilometers towards the crater opening in the northern part of the active crater of Mount Ibu.
