Estimates Rainy Season In West Kalimantan Starting October 2023, BMKG: The Impact Of El Nino August Is Dry

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that West Kalimantan Province (Kalbar) will generally enter the rainy season in early October 2023.

"Although currently some areas have rained, in general early October 2023 it is entering the rainy season," said Head of West Kalimantan Climatology Station Luhur Tri Uji Prayitno in Pontianak, Friday.

He said there are 15 season zones (ZOM) in West Kalimantan and are divided into four types, namely monsunal 1, monsunal 2, equatorial 1, and equatorial 2 which have type one season and have two types of seasons, namely dry and rainy.

According to him, the forecast for the start of the rainy season 2023/2024 in West Kalimantan in October III there were three Zones 351, 355, 363 then in November there was one Zone 350.

"For the rainy season early forecast area in October, lll in ZOM 351, 355, 363 in North Kayong Regency, Ketapang, Kubu Raya, Melawi then in November I at ZOM 350 was in Ketapang Regency," he said.

He said the comparison of the start of the season was slower than normal, four at ZOM 350, 351, 355, 363 in Ketapang, Kayong Utara, Kubu Raya, and Melawi regencies.

Meanwhile, the forecast for the rainy season is generally under normal conditions in ZOM 351, 353, 354, 355, 362, 363 in northern Kayong, Ketapang, Kubu Raya, Melawi, Bengkayang, Landak, Mempawah, Pontianak, Sambas, Singkawang, and Sanggau Regencies.

Then, the peak of the rainy season is estimated to generally occur in December 2023, but there are several ZOMs that experienced a faster peak of rain in November 2023 in ZOM 352, 362, 364 in Bengkayang Regency, Landak, Sambas, Sanggau, Kubu Raya, Mempawah, Pontianak, Singkawang.

"The impact of El Nino in August was dry and then there was La Nina which could balance due to a lot of rainfall," he said.

He explained that climate phenomena for La Nina and El Nino turned out that in West Kalimantan there were still hotspots and peaks in July, August, and September.

"El Nino has a huge impact on the agricultural and plantation sectors that can cause losses due to the large amount of water that causes flooding to make plants die and have to plant them again. We hope that people can face the risk of the rainy season disaster that will occur from November to December 2023," he said.
