DKI Provincial Government Again Sanctions PT SMII Palm Oil Factory Due To Air Pollution

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency has again imposed sanctions on palm oil mills due to Jakarta's air pollution. This coercion sanction by the government is applied to PT SMII which is located in East Jakarta. In this week, the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency together with the Task Force Team have visited two processed palm oil industries and their derivatives that have the potential to not meet the emission quality standards on their pipelines, and have the potential to pollute the air. Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, said that this operation was a routine supervision in the context of inventory and control of air pollution from immovable sources in the DKI Jakarta area. "The task force routinely checks the industrial crop which has the potential to be a source of air polluting in Jakarta. The team also includes laboratory testers who test emissions directly to the source,” Asep said in his statement, Thursday, September 22. Asep said, the DKI Provincial Government is currently looking at industries that still use coal fuel in their operations. According to him, almost all companies that have been sanctioned are coal-related industries. " “ So we have to thoroughly monitor all industries that still use coal. The reason is that in 2030 in Jakarta all industries must have low emissions according to the Governor's Decree 576 of 2023,” he said. On Tuesday, September 19, the Environment Agency imposed sanctions on PT AAJ because the palm oil processing plant was not obedient in meeting the quality standards of the source not moving on its pipeline. On Thursday, August 31, the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency also sanctioned three coal warehousing and storage companies, namely Bahana Indokarya Global, PT Trada Trans Indonesia, and PT Trans Bara Energy. These three companies were given administrative sanctions in the form of government coercion after it was proven that they had not completed environmental management that had the potential to pollute the environment, so the operations were temporarily suspended. Not only targeting large industrial factories, the sanctions imposed on perpetrators of air pollution are also imposed on small businesses owned by residents. The East Jakarta Environment Agency closed the charcoal burning business at Lubang Buaya. The DKI Provincial Government ordered that the business building be demolished because it did not have a permit. Then on Wednesday, August 30, a concrete batching plant (CBP) company in West Jakarta, namely PT Merak Jaya Beton, was stopped operating. During an inspection of PT Merak Jaya Beton, the DKI Provincial Government found that PT Merak Jaya Beton had not followed up on fulfilling its commitment to drafting environmental documents. This company is also subject to administrative sanctions for coercion by the government with a temporary closure. On September 13, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also sealed the steel smelting company PT Jakarta Central Asia Steel due to being proven to pollute the environment and cause pollution.

After receiving the sanctions, PT Jakarta Central Asia Steel, is required to stop operating the reheating scheme within a predetermined period of time. If not, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will not hesitate to freeze until it revokes the company's environmental permit.
