JAKARTA - DSP, a man from Palembang who committed fraud in selling Toyota Hilux cars with a unique mode, turned out to be a drug case recidivist. In front of the police and journalists, DSP admitted that he could commit the fraud because he learned from a cellmate in a drug prison.

"The perpetrator has been convicted in a narcotics prison before", said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Jakarta Police, AKBP Bintoro, to reporters, Wednesday, September 20.

DSP admitted that he was taught how to say politeness to potential victims, in order to convince and smooth the action.

"Learning (fraud) from prison. If the victim asks, the car is still there, in West Bekasi, in Jakasampurna, right, if there are friends or relatives, you can check the unit, please check the unit first," replied the perpetrator.

AKBP Bintoro explained that the perpetrator made advertisements on social media. He sells the Toyota Hilux car at a low price below the market. Then the victim contacted the perpetrator via the mobile number listed in the advertisement.

DSP, who was in Palembang at that time, admitted that his position was in Bekasi, and sent a fake location to the victim. The victim was interested and sent a friend with the initials W to check the car he was going to buy.

W also contacted the perpetrator via WhatsApp. However, the perpetrator took a profile photo of W and used a new cellphone number to contact the victim.

The perpetrator contacted the victim by pretending to be W and said the car was in good condition. Suddenly this made the victim more confident and sent money to the perpetrator. But unfortunately the car purchased never came. The victim suffered a loss of Rp. 110 million.

The police who received the report immediately acted and arrested the perpetrator in Palembang. For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 28 Paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 45 A of the ITE Law and or Article 378 of the Criminal Code, the threat is 6 years in prison.
