LaNyalla: Cendekiawan Must Have Space To Participate In Determining The Direction Of The Nation's Travel

Chairman of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD) AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti said scholars must have space and opportunity to participate in determining the direction of the nation's journey.

"Because they are the wisdom who have wisdom. They are the ones whose opinions must be weighed in deliberation to determine the direction of the nation's journey," said DPD Chairman LaNyalla in the East Java ICMI National Organization Dialogue at the East Java Kadin Institute in Surabaya, Sunday, September 17.

LaNyalla explained that the founders of this nation are intellectuals, scholars, including religious figures who obey. They are a group of people whose ethics, morals and noble character need not be doubted.

However, the current practice of democracy which is only filled through general elections has a fundamental weakness. Therefore, the state system formulated by the nation's founders opens space in the MPR for those sent. One of them is the Envoy of the Group. So that it becomes a complete democracy as a forum for the sovereignty of the people.

"Because, if only through elections, there is no room for scholars or scholars to salaf, for example, because election test stones use the measure of popularity and electability," said LaNyalla.

"Are the professors on campus or salaf scholars who are not popular having to participate in fabricating popularity through mass media and social media? Of course it will be even more damaged by this nation. Because popularity has absolutely nothing to do with ethics, morals and morals," he said.
