Bobby Nasution Widens Gold Trench Over Floods In 3 Medan Regions

The Medan City Government through the Medan City Highways Development Water Resources Office (SDABMBK) has widened the Golden Trench along Jalan Sampali, Pandau Hulu II Village, Medan Area District to overcome the flood problems that often hit the area.

"With the widening, the Golden Trench can accommodate the water discharge when heavy rains fall and flow into the river, thereby minimizing the occurrence of flooding that has been complained of by residents," said Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution while reviewing the preparation of the Golden Trench widening pole reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 5.

Widening must be done because some of the Gold Trench is narrowing, so it is unable to accommodate the water discharge. This condition causes water coming from the Asia Road area to be hampered to the river so that it overflows and inundates residents' houses.

When he arrived at the location, Bobby Nasution who was present accompanied by Dandim 0201/Medan Col. Inf. Ferry Muzawwad, Medan Police Chief Kombes Pol Valentino Alfa Tatareda, and Head of SDABMBK Head Topan Obaja Putra Ginting saw heavy equipment preparing to make preparations.

According to Bobby Nasution, this widening of the Golden Trench was carried out as an effort by the Medan City Government to overcome flooding that often occurs on Jalan Asia. The widening of the trench will be uniformed 7 meters wide in order to accelerate the flow of water from the ditch to the river.

President Joko Widodo's son-in-law revealed that the widening of the Golden Trench will have an impact on three areas, namely Jalan Asia, Kota Matsum and Jalan Ismailiyah. This means that approximately 170 hectares of area will be affected by the widening of the trench.

Jalan Asia is a business and economic area in Medan City. If (floods) are not resolved, we are worried that it will have an impact on the economic sector. For this reason, we must do this flood problem as soon as possible," he said.

Bobby said 90 percent of the land along the area widening the Gold Trench belongs to the Medan City Government, so it does not take land owned by the community. It is planned that the work on widening the trench will be completed in December.

During the review, Bobby Nasution also discussed with local residents. A number of suggestions and inputs, including the rejection of a handful of residents regarding the widening of the trench carried out.

Bobby then explained the importance of widening the trench. After being explained, the public can also understand and accept the widening of the trench.

After discussing with the community, Bobby Nasution then saw the preparation of the trench widening pole using heavy equipment. On the sidelines of his review, the husband of the Medan City PKK TP Chair, Mrs. Kahiyang Ayu, is also still greeting other residents while distributing food packages, especially for a number of underprivileged families.
