Japanese PM Will Attend ASEAN Summit In Jakarta

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will attend the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the G20 Summit in India.

During the week tour starting on Tuesday, it is estimated that Kishida will hold bilateral talks with a number of other state leaders, including Indonesia and India on the sidelines of the summit.

This was conveyed by the Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno during a press conference reported by ANTARA, Friday, September 1.

The focus of the trip is related to whether Kishida will meet with top Chinese officials as relations between the two Asian countries heat up after Japan begins disposing of radioactive water waste from the PLTN Fukushima into the sea, observers say.

"In Jakarta, Kishida will likely affirm Japan's hopes for the success of the upcoming special summit in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the friendship between Japan and ASEAN," said Mathsuno.

He added that the government had approved the plan to hold a meeting in Tokyo for three days starting December 16.

At the G20 summit in NewDelhi, Kishida may discuss various global contents such as food safety amid Russia's war on Ukraine and the promotion of digitalization with other participants, the spokesman said.
