8 New USK Banda Aceh Students Indicated For Using Psychotropics

ACEH - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Aceh Province stated that eight new students at Syiah Kuala University (USK) Banda Aceh were indicated to use psychotropics based on the results of urine tests. However, BNN is still waiting for further examination of psychotropic substances or drugs according to a doctor's prescription. "There are eight new USK students indicated to be using psychotropic. This is just an indication, and they are not necessarily drug users. They will be confirmed again," said Head of BNN Aceh Province Sukandar in Banda Aceh, Antara, Tuesday, August 29. Previously, the Aceh Province BNN collaborated with USK to conduct urine tests for 5,664 new students. Urine tests were centered at the Kuala Shiite Education Hospital for seven days, from 7 to 14 August 2023. According to Sukandar, the eight students indicated that they did not necessarily use drugs, but could have used drugs because of their health problems. Therefore, there will be further examinations of the eight students. "Later on, we will immediately summon them for further examination. An examination is to ascertain whether the psychotropic drugs they consume are drugs based on a doctor's prescription or indeed the illegal drugs used," he said. If any of the students do use illegal drugs without a doctor's prescription, rehabilitation will be carried out to restore the condition concerned so that it no longer depends on drugs. Those who take part in the rehabilitation process will not be prosecuted criminally. "Recovery for students if they use drugs without disturbing the lecture process. Rehabilitation is free of charge or free. This recovery is to save them from the dangers of drugs. They are the nation's next young generation who must be saved," said Sukandar. Deputy Chancellor III for Student Affairs and USK Alumni Prof. Mustanir said urine tests for new students are a commitment to realize the Syiah Kuala University campus drug-free. "The urine test for new students is early detection of drug trafficking and abuse on the USK campus. This urine test is also to save the younger generation if any of them become victims of drugs," he said. Regarding the eight new students who were indicated positive for psychotropic use, Mustanir said they were immediately questioned and checked again, whether psychotropics were used based on a doctor's prescription or not.

"So, it cannot be decided whether they consume psychotropic drugs or use drugs for treatment. If these psychotropics are consumed without a doctor's prescription, they will be rehabilitated without disturbing their educational activities," said Mustanir.
