Vehicles Can Cross The Garut Banjarwangi-Singajaya Line After Closed Cliff Longsoran

Land material avalanches that closed the main Banjarwangi-Singajaya road in Garut Regency can be passed by the community. Heavy equipment was lowered this afternoon to get rid of the remaining material.

"It can be passed while closing and opening, but the material is still closing the road and the plan is to do a total cleaning of heavy equipment this afternoon," said Banjarwangi Police Chief Iptu Amirudin Latif while inspecting the location of the landslide which blocked the main road in the southern region of Garut, Tuesday, August 29, which was confiscated by Antara.

He said that the landslide of cliff soil material was not previously suspected because it was currently in the dry season.

The landslide that occurred on Monday, August 28 that afternoon, he said, closed the road body as high as 30 meters. As a result, two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles cannot pass through this route.

"There were no victims, coincidentally at the time of the incident there were no vehicles," said Amirudin.

He conveyed that a number of officers from the relevant agencies, the police, the TNI, volunteers, and the local community were trying to get rid of landslide materials with heavy equipment and manuals.

In addition, he continued, his party had coordinated with the Garut Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to conduct a study in the area which was observed that there were still cracks on the cliffs.

"Waiting for a study from BPBD for follow-up because there are still cracks in the cliffs," he said.

He conveyed that the southern route across Banjarwangi-Singajaya was prone to landslides because there were cliffs and cliffs along the road.

In addition, he continued, the condition of the soil is also unstable, which landslides can occur not only during the rainy season, but also during the dry season there is the potential for landslides.

"Almost all the way is indeed unstable, left and right of the cliff or vice versa," he said.
