YOGYAKARTA - The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has begun to mitigate violation vulnerabilities ahead of the 2024 General Election.

Chairman of the DIY Bawaslu Mohammad Najib said the mitigation was based on the 2024 Election Insecurity Index (IKP) which had been prepared by the Central Bawaslu.

"IKP is an early warning system to carry out mitigation related to the potential for problems and violations," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 25.

Based on the socio-political dimension, according to Najib, the IKP places DIY as a province with a vulnerability level of 75.87 or ranked fifth nationally.

In a row, the five provinces with the highest level of vulnerability in the socio-political dimension at IKP 2024 are North Maluku, North Sulawesi, Papua, DKI Jakarta, and DI Yogyakarta.

Najib said DIY was included in the five provinces with the highest socio-political dimension IKP due to problems with election security conditions.

"This is the basis for determining the focus of supervision and preparation of surveillance strategies," he said.

Meanwhile, based on the district level, according to him, Sleman Regency is the most vulnerable area in DIY.

Next, Yogyakarta City, Bantul Regency, Gunungkidul, and Kulon Progo are categorized as moderate vulnerabilities.

The Coordinator of the Legal, Public Relations, and Bawaslu Information Division of Sleman Regency, Arjuna Al Ichsan Siregar, said that his party would take preventive measures in accordance with the vulnerability dimensions in the IKP.

Arjuna invites the public and supporters of certain pairs of candidates to campaign in a healthy manner by not using fraudulent means to get sympathy or public votes.

"We invite the public or supporters to prioritize healthy campaigns, not attacking each other, but mutual empathy. We are also monitoring together involving a number of stakeholders below," he said.
