Bandarlampung City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said that up to now seven sub-districts have experienced drought due to the El Nino phenomenon.

"El Nino made the dry season in Bandar Lampung more dry and hot. So far, seven sub-districts have been affected by drought," said Head of BPBD Bandar Lampung City Ahmad Husna as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 25.

He mentioned seven sub-districts experiencing drought and lack of clean water, namely Sukabumi, Bumi Waras, Sukarame, Langkapura, Peace, Central Tanjungkarang, and Kedaton.

"Since the beginning of August, our city BPBD has distributed clean water to residents in the seven sub-districts. Until this morning as much as 85,000 liters of clean water were distributed to local residents," he said.

According to him, seven of the 20 sub-districts of Bandarlampung are areas that are prone to drought in the dry season.

"Hopefully there will be no more sub-districts that experience drought because the most crucial drought is in these seven sub-districts," he said.

Husna also hopes that people can adapt to the extreme dry season for the safety of themselves and their families.

"Because El Nino is a natural symptom, it is hoped that people can use water more efficiently. Prioritize it for household needs," he said.

Husna also appealed to the public, especially children, to limit outdoor activities because El Nino is exacerbating the dry season which results in drought and dust.

"If possible stay indoors and if the school does not play outdoors, because it has an impact on the respiratory tract," he said.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that El Nino is a phenomenon of heating up the sea surface temperature in the central to eastern Pacific Ocean.

El Nino generally has an impact on drastically reducing rainfall in Indonesia. Based on the prediction of BMKG monthly rainfall as of August 1, 2023, several areas will experience low-category (0 - 100 mm/month) monthly rainfall, mainly in August - September - October.
