JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy will have an office in Papua in early September 2023.

Muhadjir will check the process of handling the hunger disaster in three districts of Puncak Regency in Central Papua. Including monitoring the construction of logistics warehouses.

"I want to check, especially the development of the logistics sector in Agandugume, where yesterday there was hunger," said Muhadjir in Jakarta, Thursday, August 24, quoted by Antara.

Muhadjir plans to leave for Central Papua on September 1. Then, will join Vice President Ma'ruf Amin who will also have a temporary office in Papua on September 3.

However, before accompanying the Vice President, Muhadjir will see how the distribution of foodstuffs, especially for three districts affected by drought and hunger in Lambewi, Agandugume and Oneri Districts.

The construction of this logistics warehouse is also an effort by the government in anticipating the food crisis that resulted in the death of residents due to hunger in three districts of Puncak Regency. Later, the logistics warehouses will be filled with tubers who become staple food for the Papuan people.

Kamadjir could not confirm how long he will be based in Papua. The period of stay there will depend on various affairs in Jakarta.

"The office can be three days, it can be two days, it can be half a day. Relatively, if you look at the problem later it can be resolved as soon as possible, why do you have to linger there, there are other matters that must be resolved," he said.

Previously, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin would have an office in Papua in early September 2023 with a number of ministers and TNI Commanders to accelerate development efforts there and also resolve problems faced by local governments.

Spokesperson for Vice President Masduki Baidlowi said that during the Vice President's visit to Papua some time ago, many of the reported problems had not been resolved, so that in Papua the Vice President would hold a number of important meetings, one of which was to hear the aspirations of the acting governors and regents.

Deputy for the Secretariat of the Vice President for Government and National Insight Velix Wanggai added that during the visit, the vice president and the regional government will look for solutions to combine a welfare approach with an effective security approach in Papua.

The vice president will also visit Biak for sanitation treatment and preparation for Sail Teluk Cenderawasih.
