JAKARTA - The Golkar Party responded to the speech of the Chairman of the DPD RI La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, who conveyed the discourse on returning the presidential election to the MPR RI. Golkar does not agree if the MPR re-elects and inaugurates the president of the Republic of Indonesia. "I strongly disagree with the proposed presidential election to be returned to the MPR," said Golkar Party DPP chairman Ace Hasan Syadzily, Wednesday, August 16. Ace assessed that the direct presidential election by the people was a mandate of Reform. "Where are the people who want to directly elect their president," he continued. In addition, said Ace, direct presidential elections (pilpres) by the people are a reflection of people's sovereignty. Because with this system, the people can directly use their political rights. "If the presidential election is returned to the MPR RI, then by itself return the MPR as the highest country. This will definitely require amendments to the 1945 Constitution. In terms of the political system, our democracy will go back to the back," said the Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR. Previously, the Chairman of the DPD RI La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti encouraged the election to be returned as before the amendment, namely through the MPR RI. Because La Nyalla assessed that Indonesia's political face is currently increasingly liberal.

"I continue to encourage the presidential election at the MPR," said La Nyalla at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 16. La Nyalla believes that the direct presidential election only represents political parties and is not independent. According to him, 270 million Indonesians cannot be represented only by political parties. He wants members of the DPR to also be individual members, not just representatives of political parties. "Opening the opportunity for members of the Indonesian House of Representatives who come from election participants for individual or non-partisan elements, apart from members of political parties," said La Nyalla.
