KLHK Affirms Air Pollution In Jakarta Not Sourced From PLTU

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) emphasized that the air pollution that occurs in Jakarta does not come from steam power plants or coal-fired PLTUs.

Director of Air Pollution Control of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Luckmi Purwandari, said the satellite image depicting the source of air pollution from the PLTU was a hoax.

"The photo has already been circulated and we have actually conducted a study. If we look at the website of thenicus 5p satellite centinel, it shows how nitrogen dioxide in the air is like," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 16.

Luckmi assesses that there are parties who want to take advantage in the midst of the issue of air pollution that is currently enveloping Jakarta.

According to him, data from thecopernicus 5p satellite centinel page shows the direction of the wind not to Jakarta, in contrast to simulation images scattered in the community.

The transportation and manufacturing sector is still a major problem of air pollution in Jakarta which must be controlled immediately so that the public can enjoy the air of the capital city that is better.

Luckmi said air pollution control must be carried out immediately following the many causes, both natural and unnatural.

Natural factors in the form of seasons, directions and wind speeds, to the landscape of the city of Jakarta. This natural factor is difficult to control.

The factors derived from human activities, such as the transportation sector, industry, household activities to burning waste can be controlled.

Luckmi stated that the results of the central government's limited meeting explained that the transportation sector was the main cause of air pollution.

"Based on the emission inventory from various studies in recent years, emission disposal from the transportation sector has indeed become the main cause of pollution in Jakarta, followed by industry," he said.

Over the past three months, research has stated that every June--August period or when the east muson's dry season blows, the risk of poor air quality is higher than other periods.

Based on data from the KLHK's standard air pollution index (ISPU), from 2018 to 2023, the average air quality in Jakarta is not healthy, especially in the middle of the year.

The government hopes that the wider public will be able to control the use of private transportation so as not to worsen the pollution situation in Jakarta.
