JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) is reviewing the effectiveness of the "4 in 1" system which is expected to reduce the quantity of cars passing through Jabodetabek to reduce air pollution.

"Yes, (the proposed 4 in 1) will be discussed later, in about two weeks (the discussion will be held)," said Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 15.

Heru also admitted that he did not know for sure whether the implementation of the "4 in 1" system would be effective in order to reduce pollution in Jabodetabek, especially DKI Jakarta.

"It's still being discussed, I can't (give information) such details," said Heru.

The discussion is considering that 50 percent of the biggest contributors, said Heru, which causes bad air quality in Jakarta is pollution from transportation.

"If calculated, 50 percent are contributed by pollution from transportation," said Heru.

Therefore, as an effort to improve air quality in Jakarta, Heru appealed to Jakarta residents and their surroundings to switch from private vehicles to public transportation such as KRL, TransJakarta, MRT Jakarta and LRT Jakarta.

Previously, the government considered implementing the "4 in 1" system for cars passing through Jabodetabek to reduce air pollution, which in recent days has continued to worsen.

"It is considered to make '3 in 1' to '4 in 1'. So say those from Bekasi, Tangerang, and Depok, they together went to the changing office of their car so that the number decreased," said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi after a limited meeting chaired by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding air pollution at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta.

Minister of Transportation Budi said the consideration of the implementation of 4 in 1 is because the level of vehicle utilities in Jabodetabek is only used by one or two people per vehicle. This makes the number of vehicles higher so as to increase the amount of exhaust gas emissions into the air.
