Overcoming Jabodetabek Air Pollution, Minister Of Transportation Considers Vehicle Rules 4 In 1

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi considers the rules for the use of one four-wheeled motorized vehicle filled with four people or 4 in 1 to deal with air pollution in Jabodetabek.

According to Budi, this can reduce Jakarta's air pollution, which is 40 percent contributed by motorized vehicles. This was revealed by Budi after a limited meeting (ratas) chaired by President Joko Widodo.

"The utility of this vehicle is many who use 1 person or a maximum of 2 people. So, it is considered to make 3 in 1 4 in 1. So, say the ones from Bekasi, Tangerang, Depok they go to the office together, the car changes. So, the number decreases," said Budi at the Presidential Palace, Monday, August 14.

On the one hand, Budi also asked PLN to add points for public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) to make it easier for the public to use electric vehicles.

"We ask PLN to increase the provision of SPKLU which can be used because of that there is already a governor's regulation so that those who buy electric vehicles can get it," said Budi.

Furthermore, Budi also encouraged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and Polda Metro Jaya to ticket motorized vehicles that had not or did not pass the emission test.

"Later, together with the local government, together with the police, we will increase the law enforcement. If vehicles do not pass the emission test, they do not have the right to travel in Jabodetabek," he explained.

In today's limited meeting, President Joko Widodo said it was necessary to encourage a hybrid work system to reduce air pollution in Jabodetabek, which in the past week was categorized as very bad.

"If needed, we must dare to encourage many offices to carry out hybrid working, work from office, work from home, maybe. I don't know later from the agreement at this limited meeting, whether (hours) 7-5, 2-5, or other numbers," Jokowi said when starting a limited meeting.

Jokowi said the air quality in Jabodetabek over the past week has been very bad. According to Jokowi, the long dry season to the use of energy sources from coal is a factor in the poor air quality in Jabodetabek.

"The long week for the last three months has caused increased concentration of high pollutants as well as emission disposal from transportation and industrial activities in Jabodetabek, especially those using coal in the manufacturing industry sector," he said.

In the short term, he also ordered the relevant ministries and non-ministerial government agencies (K/L) to intervene so that the air quality in Jabodetabek was better.

These interventions, Jokowi added, include weather engineering to provoke rain in the Jabodetabek area and implement regulations to accelerate the application of emission limits, especially in the Jabodetabek area.
