Sudirman Said Says Anies Baswedan's Companion Will Be Announced Soon

JAKARTA - A member of Team Eight of the Change Coalition for Unity, Sudirman Said, said that soon he would announce a candidate for vice president who would accompany Anies Baswedan in the 2024 General Election.

"When the announcement of the candidate for Vice President Anies Baswedan is made, this is still under the discussion of the KPP (Change Coalition for Unity)," said Sudirman Said, quoted from Antara, Sunday.

He conveyed that the coalition appreciated different views on the timing of the declaration as well as the announcement of Anies Baswedan's candidate for companion.

"The three KPP parties have different internal backgrounds and contexts, although for the same purpose, they carry and win pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates for the change coalition," he said.

The former minister of ESDM believes that every view has a background and basis of thought.

Some time ago the General Chairperson of the Nasdem Party expressed his view that it was better for Anies Baswedan to declare a presidential candidate waiting for another coalition first, even saying that it would be carried out at the end before the official registration to the KPU.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party and the Prosperous Justice Party hope that there will be a joint declaration as soon as possible and announce the name of the candidate pair Anies.

"It is true that there is a difference, but the similarity is that the entire party is based on the Coalition Charter, which is to give a mandate to the presidential candidate to determine a partner," he said.

According to Sudirman Said, Anies has received input from various names of his prospective assistants over the past few months from the results of consulting with many community leaders, both party leaders and non-party leaders.

He said the name of the vice presidential candidate was pocketed by Anies, and is currently in the process of communicating the decisions he has made to the general chairmen of the KPP party and community leaders.

"Later, after communication is complete, party leaders will agree on the best momentum for a joint declaration of the coalition and announce the names of potential partners," he said.

"We ask for prayers from various parties who want improvement, because soon KPP will officially declare the Anies Baswedan pair for the 2024 General Election," Sudirman added.
