The Minister Of Communication And Information Encourages The Broadcasting Industry For Digital Technology Adoption

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi encourages broadcasting industries to adopt the latest digital technology such as artificial intelligence. He assessed that the broadcasting industry in Indonesia has adaptability to the ongoing technological dynamics. "This is clear evidence that broadcasting people are very adaptive in facing the dynamics and challenges that are developing so rapidly," Budi Arie said in a press release quoted from Antara, Sunday, August 13. The adaptability can also be seen from the prediction of television advertising revenue in Indonesia which will grow 10.3 percent in 2023 with a value of 1.4 billion US dollars (Rp 21 trillion). "This positive projection is one of the main indicators that the Indonesian broadcasting industry is quite agile and has a resilience in the face of the onslaught of digital technology disruption," he said. Budi Arie highlighted the rapid development of technology in the field of artificial intelligence that will affect the future of the global broadcasting industry. According to him, artificial intelligence technology will revolutionize the process of content creation, audience engagement, and advertising technology. Digital technology also poses new challenges, including the potential loss of employment opportunities and causing various ethical problems. Therefore, the Minister of Communication and Information invites stakeholders in the broadcasting industry to jointly review the impact of technological developments on the broadcasting industry in the future. "From this study, we will jointly draw up a roadmap to ensure that the broadcasting industry can remain empowered and sovereign in the future," he said. The series of activities to commemorate 90th National Broadcasting Day were held in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands from 10 to 13 August 2023, consisting of the National Coordination Meeting of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission, Focus Group Discussion Kaleidoscope Broadcasting, and the Peak of the 90th National Broadcasting Day Commemoration. Budi hopes that the commemoration of the 90th National Broadcasting Day in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands can increase enthusiasm and motivation to catch up with the border with neighboring countries. "Kepri borders Singapore, which is indeed more advanced, so we have to catch up," he said. According to him, one of the efforts to catch up is to improve the quality of broadcasting content, both television and radio. This is considered easier to do because Indonesia has a tough culture, but it still needs effort to package it into more interesting content. "I believe that when it comes to our culture, we are strong, our cultural power, our cultural wisdom is strong, it's just a matter of how we create more interesting content," he said. The Minister of Communication and Information also appreciated the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission for choosing Bintan Regency as the venue for the 90th series of National Broadcasting Day activities. He hopes that the Riau Islands can inspire other regions in Indonesia to advance.

"Kepri as a province that has pluralism demographics because all tribes are in Riau Islands, as a mini Indonesia, then Riau Islands can inspire Indonesia to progress," he concluded.
