Impacting Revenue, Ojek In Bali Agrees Ojol Perpetrators Of Rape Of Brazilian Tourists Heavily Sentenced

DENPASAR - A number of online motorcycle taxi drivers (online motorcycle taxis/ojol) in Bali have asked that the perpetrators of the rape of Brazilian tourists be severely punished for damaging the image of the motorcycle taxi driver on the Island of the Gods.

"We hope that consumers will not equate WD's behavior with other motorcycle taxi drivers," said online motorcycle taxi driver Adi Putra, quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, August 13.

Another online motorcycle taxi driver, Gunawan, who is a member of the Bikers Online community on the Island of the Gods, condemned the heinous act of the rapist, Wangkadesh Dever (WD).

"If we can be sentenced to castration for tarnishing ojol. Moreover, we also have female drivers, we really take care of it," he said.

In line with Gunawan, another online driver, Suryadi, hopes that the 21-year-old perpetrator will be punished accordingly for disturbing his daily work.

According to him, after the incident it harmed the image of the ojol and it was feared that consumers would be reluctant to use its services.

In fact, being an ojol is a livelihood after previously being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"A few days after there was an incident about WD, it had indeed made an order to go down. Fortunately, now it's starting to return to normal again," added Suryadi.

On the other hand, he appreciated the authorities who could immediately arrest the perpetrator in collaboration with the online motorcycle taxi applicator, Grab, where the perpetrator worked as an ojol.

Meanwhile, the Head of Denpasar Police, Police Commissioner Bambang Yugo Pamungkas, explained that WD was charged with Article 285 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) and/or Article 6 letter a of Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence (UU TPKS) with a penalty of 12 years in prison.

Currently, WD is in the detention of the Denpasar Police for further investigation.

WD was previously arrested at his uncle's house, Pasuruan, East Java, Tuesday (8/8) at 21.30 WITA.

Previously, tourists from Brazil GWL reported cases of rape at the Denpasar Police on Monday (7/8) and immediately underwent a series of examinations by investigators, including interviews with the Women and Children Service Unit.

In addition, the preparation of the examination report (BAP), health checks or post-mortem at the Trijata Hospital in Denpasar and the confiscation of evidence in the form of clothes worn by the victim at the time of the incident.

WD, who came from Jember, East Java, raped GWL on Sunday (6/8) in one of the vacant lands, Nyangnyang, Jimbaran, South Kuta, Badung, Bali, at around 04.00 a.m. local time.

The mode of the perpetrator who boarding the boarding house in the Kerobokan area, Badung Regency, was that during the trip, the victim was invited to continue to communicate until the victim did not pay attention to the travel route map on the google maps that were the destination.
