JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry stated that the phenomenon of El Nino which has caused dry dry water for a long time has caused the sky on the island of Java to be clean without clouds until the end of October 2023. The Director General of Environmental Pollution and Damage Control (PPKL) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Sigit Reliantoro said that this condition prevented the government from carrying out weather modification operations to reduce rain and make air pollution on the island of Java. "Until the end of October there were no clouds available for weather modification technology operations," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Friday, August 11. Sigit said that mitigation of short-term air pollution control can be done through weather modification technology, but the main requirement is that there is potential for clouds to be lowered through saltation in the atmosphere layer. If the sky is dry without clouds, then the operation cannot be carried out. In Java, especially Jakarta, the availability of clouds does not exist. Sigit said the government is currently maximizing weather modification technology operations on the island of Sumatra because the sky there is still clouds until August 22. Acting Deputy for Climatology BMKG Ardhasena Sopaheliwakan said El Nino did not exacerbate air pollution and only had a real impact on the long dry season, especially Jakarta.

According to him, although there are no clouds in the sky, rain in several locations may occur, but in the long term the dry season in Jakarta lasts until the end of October.
