SOUTH Kalimantan Regional Police (Kalsel) received as many as 350 reports of alleged cyber crime from the public within six months from January to July 2023.
"Reports of cybercriminals continue to increase from year to year, this should be our common concern," said the Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the South Kalimantan Police, Kombes Pol Suhasto, in Banjarmasin, Wednesday, August 9, as reported by Antara.
The majority reported were various modes of online fraud and defamation on social media.
To increase awareness and cyber security to prevent crimes of Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE), the South Kalimantan Police also held technical guidance on ITE crimes which were attended by dozens of people from various government agencies and private elements as well as students including journalists from the South Kalimantan Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI).
Suhasto hopes that the enlightenment and disclosure of insight through bimtek can increase public understanding of the threat of crime and cyber crime.
"In the end, the number of victims of cyber crimes has decreased and is getting wiser using social media," he said.
