Potential Waves As High As 4 Meters In North Jayapura, BMKG Asks Local Fishermen To Be Alert

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to fishermen looking for fish in Jayapura waters to be aware of high waves.

Head of the Dok II Jayapura Maritime Meteorology Station, Heri Purnomo, said that high category waves reaching 2.50'4.0 meters have the potential to occur in the Pacific Ocean north of Jayapura within 7-9 August 2023.

Meanwhile, moderate category waves of 1.25-2.50 meters have the potential to occur in the southern waters of Biak, the western waters of Biak and the northern Pacific Ocean of Biak.

Meanwhile, moderate category waves as high as 0.50'1.25 meters have the potential to occur in the eastern waters of Biak, Jayapura-Sarmi waters and Cenderawasih Bay.

BMKG forecaster Adivis Sagala added that his party also predicts high waves reaching 1.25-2.50 meters in the ongoing category in the Pacific Ocean north of Biak and the northern Pacific Ocean of Jayapura on 10-13 August 2023.

Meanwhile, waves as high as 0.50-1.25 meters have the potential to occur in the northern waters of Biak, the southern waters of Biak and the eastern waters of Biak, Cenderawasih Bay and Jayapura-Sarmi waters.

He said, BMKG Region V Jayapura routinely reports about wave conditions in Papua waters to the Office of the Harbormaster and Port Authority (KSOP) or Harbormaster so that they can be informed to various parties.

Fishermen are also asked to actively update weather developments, especially waves through BMKG's social media.
