185 NTT Residents Become Victims Of TIP Abroad In The Last 6 Months

A total of 185 workers from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) were victims of criminal acts of trafficking in persons (TPPO) who were recruited procedurally to work abroad in the last six months.

He said the data on cases of trafficking in persons collected through the NTT Women and Children National Protection Information System (SIMFONI PPA) stated that the reported cases had increased.

According to him, in 2019, TIP cases in NTT were recorded at 191 cases and in 2020 it increased again to 382 people and in 2021 there was a significant increase of 624 cases.

According to him, in the first half of 2023, the number of TIP cases in this island-based province reached 185 people, consisting of 39 women, namely 12 children and 27 adults and 146 men consisting of 20 children and 126 adults.

He added that the background of cases that befell Non-Procedural Indonesian Migrant Workers (illegal) factors for poverty, limited employment opportunities in NTT, departed with their own will and the role of companies that recruit workers.

He said the crime of trafficking in persons must be eradicated together through joint work from all related components starting from upstream to downstream.
