Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD revealed that restorative justice is developed from customary law in Indonesia.

"The customary law contains local wisdom, namely about restorative justice. Currently developed by the Indonesian government, and has also become a study material in various legal faculties of developed countries, including in America," he said in Jakarta, Monday.

He explained that restorative justice is a process and a judicial mechanism, which prioritizes harmony, prioritizes harmony and does not shake the community.

"Selesaikan baik-baik, tidak perlu ada yang berperkara ke pengadilan," ujarnya.

He said, restorative justice is being implemented as a national policy, where the government has made rules, the Attorney General, the Supreme Court, and the police have also regulated that.

"Small problems, return to local wisdom of the Indonesian people, namely solving them outside the court, there is no need to make a fuss," he said.

According to him, the values in restorative justice are very good to implement. Currently what needs to be grown, he said, is the spirit of communalism of the Indonesian people, which is full of local wisdom.

"Communalism in the sense of togetherness is grown again, because it is actually an implementation of the spirit of mutual cooperation," he said.

He explained that in the past, customary law was a place to solve problems, before being known as the criminal law book (KUHP).

"So, in the past there was no difference between civil law and criminal law," he said.
