JAKARTA - The Indonesian government produced nine memorandums of understanding (MoU) in collaboration with the private health sector in China on the sidelines of President Joko Widodo's working visit to the Bamboo Curtain Country.

According to Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in a press statement video, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin held a meeting with more than 30 Chinese health businessmen.

"The Minister of Health's meeting resulted in nine private sector MoUs, among others, related to the transfer of vaccine production technology, including halal vaccines (halal vaccines)," said Retno as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 27.

The Foreign Minister explained that the other MoUs produced also include cooperation in the production of diagnostic tools and management of health information systems.

The Foreign Minister stated that the meeting between the Minister of Health and Chinese health sector businessmen was also held to facilitate match-making between businesses in the Indonesia-China Health Care and Bio-Tech Investment Forum.

In addition, the Indonesian government has also signed an action plan to implement the MoU for health cooperation with China.

"This is a follow-up to the MoU which was signed last year," said Retno.

Meanwhile, in a bilateral meeting of President Jokowi with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the two leaders encouraged the strengthening of cooperation in genomic and biotechnology vaccines to deal with the possibility of a new pandemic in the future.

"Including through the construction of a national gene bank and a biotechnology center in Indonesia," said Retno.

President Jokowi paid a working visit to Chengdu, China, on 27'28 July 2023, to fulfill President Xi Jinping's invitation which was held to coincide with 10 years of a comprehensive Indonesia-China strategic partnership.
